DBB Functionality: A Technical Clarification
The Double Block & Bleed (DBB) functionality, as defined by industry standards like API 6D, applies exclusively to fixed ball valves. This design requires both upstream and downstream pressure to be present to achieve bidirectional sealing. A DBB valve does not provide "double isolation" when pressure is applied from only one side. Its primary purpose is to allow for safe venting of the intermediate cavity after the two balls have isolated the line.
